What is Cow-pooling?

Added: 07/07/2009

Did you know that a factory farmed hamburger patty can contain parts of as many as 500 animals? If just only 1 of those animals carries harmful bacteria, such as E-coli (which does occur in factory farms, and is non-existent in grass based operations), the whole piece can become containimated. This is one of the various reasons why many families are choosing "Cow-pooling". Cow pooling is multiple or single families buying a bulk supply of of a single animal from local farmers. Time magazine even ran a feature article on the growing trend. Cow pooling is generally cheaper than store bought meat, produces a much smaller carbon footprint, and comes with all of the health benefits of grass finished beef! Devon Cattle

Added: 02/17/2008

We have recently decided that the best choice for grass finished beef for our farm is the Devon breed. Devon is a British breed of cattle that has remained virtually unchanged since the breed began back when all cattle were grass finished. After that we have joined the American Devon Cattle Association and are planning to expand our Devon herd. We bred our ½ blood Devon heifers back to Purebred Devon Bulls and are anxiously awaiting our first ¾ blood Devons due to arrive in Spring 2007.

What do words like "Grass-Fed" mean to me?

Added: 02/17/2008

They mean you now have a choice. Many additives found in processed foods have been found to greatly increase the risks of many diseases, including cancer. For Example, it is a fact that sodium nitrate is one of the most powerful cancer-promoting ingredients ever. It is a preservative found in most processed meats such as ham, pepperoni, hotdogs, lunchmeats, bacon, and sausage, to enhance their shelf life.
